Admission procedure for graduates with a German university degree
The requirement for admission to the Master’s programme in Economics is a university degree with a final grade of 2.5 or better in the Bachelor's programme's Economics, Internationale Wirtschaft & Entwicklung, Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Philosophy & Economics or Gesundheitsökonomie from the University of Bayreuth, or an alternative degree that is comparable to a B.Sc. in Economics from the Univeristiy of Bayreuth.
A Bachelor's degree in Economics from a university in the Federal Republic of Germany with a final grade of 2.5 or better is generally recognized as a comparable degree, but admission may be subject to conditions. Applicants whose degree is not in economics but closely related (e.g., statistics major with a minor in economics) can also be admitted subject to conditions. Typical such conditions are that particular modules from the Bachelor's programme at the University of Bayreuth are successfully completed within one year.
Whether the criteria for acceptance into the Master's programme are met or not will be reviewed on an individual basis prior to the enrollment process. Please submit of your CV, Bachelorzeugnis, Diploma Supplement / Transcript of Records, Abitur or secondary school leaving certificate and proof of your English language skills via CAMPUSonline.
After checking your documents we will inform you whether your degree is considered as comparable and which conditions apply for admission (if any). A minimum requirement concerning the comparability of your degree is that the combined credits in method-oriented core courses on microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, statistics and math are at least 35 ECTS. Additional credit points earned in more applied courses are desirable but generally do not count towards this minimum requirement (e.g., managerial economics, international trade, industrial organization, development economics, public finance, etc.).
Graduates of the Economics or Internationale Wirtschaft und Entwicklung or Philosophy & Economics Bachelor's programme's at the University of Bayreuth with final grade 2.5 or better can enrol directly at the Studierendenkanzlei with their transcript and proof of English language skills. The same applies to members of these programme's who have completed 150 ECTS credits with average grade 2.5 or better (submit "Antrag auf Durchschnittsnote" or "Antrag auf Zeugnis" first). These students must prove completion of their Bachelor's degree by the end of their first semester as Master's students. During this first semester, they need to be enrolled in both their Bachelor's and Master's programme's. Analogous arrangements concerning a preliminary acceptance with 150 ECTS credits are possible also for other students.
